Rihanna Court Battle With Her Dad Postponed

Rihanna will have to wait a bit longer until the legal battle with her father Ronald Fenty is resolved.

A Federal judge in California has ordered the trial date of August 22, 2020, to be vacated.

The order states no appearances have to be made by the parties. The court requests the singer and her father to propose alternative dates for the start of the trial.

The original trial date was scheduled for June 23 but they pushed it to August, in hopes the pandemic would calm down by then. The rescheduled date is now being pushed due to the ongoing crisis.

Back in 2019, Rihanna sued her father and his company, Fenty Entertainment, accusing them of profiting off her name without permission. The singer said, “Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, the authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf.”

Rihanna claimed her father was creating issues for her by booking shows without her knowledge. The suit said Ronald booked a $15 million tour in Latin America and two concerts at Staples Center. Rihanna says she had nothing to do with the bookings and caused damage to her name.

In 2018, Rihanna says her dad tried to trademark the phrase “Fenty” for a line of boutique hotels, but it was shot down by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Over the years, Rihanna says her legal team has fired off several cease and desists to Ronald but he continues on. The lawsuit is seeking an injunction prohibiting Ronald from using her name and unspecified damages.

Rihanna’s father has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. Ronald argued he was the first to use “Fenty” and not the singer. He said his entertainment company was launched before Rihanna’s “Fenty Beauty.” The case is ongoing.
