Raven-Symoné Apologizes For Controversial Comments On The View

Controversial “View” cohost Raven-Symoné has backed away from an “inexcusable” racist comment on the gabfest last week when she said she would never hire someone with the name “Watermelondrea.”

The 29-year-old show co-host apologized on Facebook on Sunday for the Friday gaffe – one so bad that even her father had condemned it.

“I have been denied many jobs because of my skin color, body size, and age. Each time I was rejected, my self esteem was negatively effected (sic), so i empathize with those who feel victimized by what I said,” she posted in hopes of quelling a controversy that began on the show two days earlier.

“I should not be part of the problem, I should be part of the solution.”

She claimed she never actually “discriminated against a name,” and admitted her comment was in “poor taste.”

The backlash against the former child star erupted when after the "View" panelists watched a viral video that poked fun at ethnic-sounding names.

“I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea,” Symoné said in response to the clip.“It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you."

The outrage on social media – even from her father – was swift and decisive.

The star's dad Christopher B. Pearman also weighed in, expressing shock about his daughter’s “inexcusable gaffe” on Facebook.

"I certainly don't agree with what she said....but she is damn near thirty years old," he wrote Friday.

Pearman also noted that he and his wife will always “support” their daughter, even if “sometimes she says some dumb (s---)!"

Symoné's controversial comments are just the latest "View" controversy since the new season of the talk show premiered last month.

Michelle Collins and Joy Behar received backlash from nurses after they made fun of a Miss America contestant for promoting her nursing profession on the pageant. A few weeks later, Candace Cameron Bure upset some viewers when she likened online bullying to rape.
