President Obama recruited rapper Macklemore to help spotlight the perils of prescription drug abuse and pressure Congress to tackle the growing crisis.
The Grammy-Award winning artist, in a Saturday cameo on Obama’s weekly radio address, issued a deeply personal message to those battling opioid addictions.
“I’m here with President Obama because I take this personally,” Macklemore said. “If I hadn’t gotten the help I needed when I needed it, I might not be here today. And I want to help others facing the same challenges I did.”
Obama noted that the House passed 18 opioid-related bills over the past week — but he said more needs to be done.
“Unless they also make actual investments in more treatment, it won’t get Americans the help they need,” Obama said.
