Legendary producer-composer Quincy Jones is balking at comparisons to hip-hop star Kanye West. Jones recently told “Us Weekly” that, in his eyes, there is no comparison. Many have attempted to connect the dots, pointing to both Jones’ and West’s wizardry behind the production boards. But Quincy is quick to point out the varying degrees of their respective skill sets. He says, quote, “Did he write for a symphony orchestra? Does he write for a jazz orchestra? Come on, man. He’s just a rapper. There’s no comparison.” The 77-year-old music legend adds, “I’m not putting him down or making a judgement or anything, but we come from two different sides of the planet.” Quincy Jones has been making the rounds promoting his new CD “Q: Soul Bossa Nostra.” Recorded as a tribute to Jones, the album features contemporary artists such as Amy Winehouse, Akon, Jennifer Hudson and Jamie Foxx reinterpreting songs associated with the 27-time Grammy winner. Here are pictures from his album release party in NYC for his new album Q Soul Bossa Nostra.
