Two wardrobe items immortalized in Prince’s “Purple Rain” have reportedly been auctioned off for a cool $192,000.
The blazer and white ruffled shirt worn by the late funk legend in his award-winning 1984 musical drama sold for $96,000 each in the Profiles of History auction Friday in California, the Guardian reports.
Prince’s black-and-white patterned blazer — reportedly given to a makeup artist after the film wrapped — had an asking price of $6,000 to $8,000, and had been slated to go on sale before the musician’s April 21 death.
“Probably the signature thing he is known for is ‘Purple Rain,’” Profiles in History founder Joe Maddalena said ahead of the auction. “It’s what made his career. It’s probably what he’ll be remembered for always. To have an important piece like this is pretty astonishing and an amazing opportunity.”
