Rubies and sapphires and emeralds, oh my — Pharrell Williams officially has the iciest smile on the block.
To create his new six-figure grills studded with colorful precious stones, the 48-year-old multi-hyphenate tapped Gabby Elan Jewelry, a Diamond District father-son duo whose inimitable designs have attracted an impressive A-list clientele.
The celebrity jewelers have made pieces for superstars including LeBron James, Heidi Klum, A$AP Rocky and Bella Hadid, and most recently designed Kim Kardashian’s “birthstone grill.”
“There was a lot of trial and error to get this perfect,” Elan Pinhasov-Malaev told Page Six Style of Pharrell’s internet-breaking mouth jewelry. “I went knocking on about 30 doors trying to find some of these stones.”
In addition to white and natural yellow diamonds, the project called for roughly $100,000 worth of rare gems that took two months to source. From start to finish, the design process took four months.
“Pharrell is on a level of his own — he’s innovative,” Pinhasov-Malaev said. “He doesn’t like anything that’s been seen before. Whatever comes into his head, that vision, he wants it perfect.”
The gems all feature a custom rose cut — Pharrell’s personal favorite — and are cast in 22-karat gold.
On Saturday, both Elan and Pharrell shared Instagram posts debuting the final product. The “Happy” singer simply captioned his photos, “the end of an era,” donning matching Jacob & Co. necklaces that were also part of the collaboration.
Many public figures couldn’t get enough of the superstar’s new look, with past collaborator Marc Jacobs commenting, “Most amazing. Absolutely mesmerizing!”
Fans couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the grills and Marvel’s Infinity Stones, with one writing, “He is literally wearing multiple INFINITY GAUNTLETS”, and another asking, “Damn how you get all those infinity stones??”.
Pinhasov-Malaev confirmed the similarities. “I was looking at all of the gems in a bag and started laughing, like, this is Thanos in a grill!.”
Whether or not he’s collected all of the powerful stones, Pharrell surely has a lot on his plate; in addition to teasing a new era (complete with an Instagram wipe), the seemingly ageless icon launched his own skincare line, called Humanrace, in late 2020.
