Paul Wall and Jill Scott collaborated for the singer’s “So Gone [What My Mind Says]” from her 2011 album, The Light Of The Sun he reflected on the record’s conception and how Jill convinced him to write a vulgar verse about a “diamond chip d**k.” He described his initial verse for the sultry record as “Kidz Bop” adjacent because he was “scared” and “didn’t know how” to write from a sexual place, but Jilly from Philly stepped in to give him a few pointers. She told him that his verse was “cool, but I want you [to say] ‘I’ma d**k you down. I’ma pull your hair. I want you to f**k the s**t outta me’ on your verse and I want you to say stuff like that.” Wall was hesitant and even asked if she was sure. “I never heard that language on a Jill Scott song and the neosoul community might whoop my a** if I’m talking like that. My mama might whoop my a**. My aunties? They gon’ jump me. My pastor’s wife might slap the s**t outta me if she hear me talkin’ vulgar on a Jill Scott song,” he teased. He changed the verse, but Scott felt he was still “being too sweet.” She basically coached him through the writing process and it was actually her who suggested that he say, “That’s what that diamond chip d**k do.” According to the rapper’s incarcerated friends, some men in prison will cut off just the tip of their genitals and insert a diamond or domino to heighten pleasure during sex. The rapper’s friends claim the experience is “next level” and will happily brag about it. Scott also wanted that level of vulgarity because the song was inspired by true events. She was in the midst of a sexual relationship, but she “couldn’t leave” because she was hypnotized by their sexual relations. “Her mind’s telling her no, but her body’s saying yes […] So that’s why she wanted me to be this character,” said the rapper.
