Paramount+ has announced the highly-anticipated premiere of THE CHOICE IS YOURS, a feature-length documentary. The documentary is set to launch exclusively on the streaming service in the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday, November 21, Directed and edited by Clark Slater, known for his work on DMX: Don’t Try And Understand, THE CHOICE IS YOURS unveils the compelling story of rapper and artist Andres “Dres” Vargas-Titus, a significant figure in the 90s hip-hop duo Black Sheep. The documentary chronicles Dres’s remarkable journey, from the pinnacle of his music career to navigating civilian life and his final opportunity for success. Throughout his journey, Dres encounters Maureen Yancey, also known as Ma Dukes, the mother of music icon J. Dilla. She entrusts him with a hard drive filled with unreleased Dilla beats, tasking him with creating the next great Dilla record. THE CHOICE IS YOURS delves into the mystery of Dilla’s story and the challenges Dres faces as he strives to preserve his legacy and release the album while facing controversy from various quarters, including those who wish he never had the beats. THE CHOICE IS YOURS is produced by Versus and MTV Entertainment. The film is executive produced by Mark Grande, Justin Barnes, Rob Meyers, Bruce Gillmer, and Amanda Culkowski, produced by Tom Colabraro, and with an original score composed by artist and producer Erick The Architect.
