Oprah Winfrey Reveals Why She Never Had Children

Oprah Winfrey may be the mother of all things media, but she doesn't want to be anyone's mom.

"If I had kids, my kids would hate me," the mogul told The Hollywood Reporter.

"They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something (in my life) would have had to suffer and it would've probably been them."
Winfrey, who has enjoyed a successful career in journalism, television and film — in addition to owning her OWN empire — was just nominated for a Screen Actor's Guild award for her role in "Lee Daniels' The Butler."

Winfrey, 59, told the magazine that she's never found motherhood particularly appealing — a nonchalance dating back to seventh grade, she said.

"While (best friend Gayle King) was having those kinds of daydreams, I was having daydreams about how I could be Martin Luther King."

The Oscar recipient has also never walked down the aisle. She and partner Stedman Graham have been together since 1986. While they were once engaged, Winfrey and Graham, 62, apparently never tied the knot.

“I’m not a traditional woman and I haven’t had a traditional life,” Winfrey said, in an interview for British talk show “Lorraine” in November.

“I think that had Stedman and I gotten married, we certainly wouldn’t have stayed married.”

In her own way, the Oscar-nominated "Color Purple" actress is still a mother. Winfrey takes care of nearly two hundred girls attending her Leadership Academy for Girls, the school she opened in South Africa in 2007. She frequently begins her day responding to their emails and travels to South Africa twice a year for visits.

"I'm responding to everything from 'I'm feeling lost' to 'I need advice about a boy,'" she told THR.
