There's no rest for Oprah Winfrey.
The talk show queen says she's considering coming to Broadway once "The Oprah Winfrey Show" wraps its 25th and final season on May 25.
"I have a stack of plays in my bag right now that I am reading," Winfrey tells The Chicago Tribune. "And just this past weekend, I was in New York meeting with producers. We were just talking about what would be the best route to take. But yes, this is really going to happen ... Life is too short. I think that an ensemble production is the way I should go."
Winfrey, who produced the Tony-winning musical version of the 1985 film she starred in "The Color Purple," almost made her debut on the Great White Way last year when theater director Kenny Leon asked her to star in his revival of "Fences."
Unfortunately, the demands of her daytime show wouldn't allow it.
"I went through the idea of trying to take my show to New York, shoot a show during the daytime and appear on Broadway at night," Winfrey says. "But I couldn't do it. And finally, Kenny said he couldn't wait any longer."
But come May 25, her calender will open up quite a bit.
She says that she's currently in talks with a number of Broadway producers and directors, but hasn't made up her mind just yet regarding which project she'll choose -- but Winfrey knows it'll be nothing like the rigors of her daytime talk show.
"It's time to do something for fun," she adds. "This next phase of my life should be pure delight."
