OMG! RIHANNA JUST WONT LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE! SHE'S STILL DOING INTERVIEWS ABOUT CHRIS BROWN!

It's hard for anyone to come of age, let alone a chart-topping singer doing it in front of millions of people. Add in one headline-making, police-involving abusive relationship, it can go from complicated and challenging to full on devastating and debilitating in an instant.
But Rihanna, who was a victim of domestic violence during her romance with R&B star Chris Brown last year, says she's "over it."

The 22-year-old opened up to Marie Claire UK about the trying time she went through and the peace she's since found in her life.

"I was very lost. I have to say I felt really confused," a teary-eyed Rihanna told the mag in its December issue. "I hate talking about it but it was really crazy because I felt so out of touch with myself and when that happens ... It's scary because nothing you say or do feels like it's you."

After dating for more than a year, their tumultuous relationship came to a head in February 2009 when Brown assaulted the singer hours before a Grammy party.

While it remains unconfirmed whether the events of that fateful night were a one-time incident, Rihanna shared with Marie Claire the lasting psychological effects of abuse.

"You just lose touch of everything that you love and everything that you would normally do; how you would dress or how you would say something," she said. "It just feels like it's not coming from you. It's just this one empty vase. I felt like an empty vessel."

And though the couple briefly reconciled, their troubles proved too much to overcome. By the time Brown pled guilty to a felony assault charge in June of 2009, they had split. In August of that year, Brown was sentenced to community service, probation and domestic violence counseling.

In the time since, Rihanna has moved on – both in her career and in her love life (she's currently dating baseball player Matt Kemp).

"Eventually, I remember waking up one day and I knew I was over it," she explained. "One day. I remember I was in New York at the Trump Hotel and I woke up and I just knew I was over it."

Still, the singer admitted she believes what she went through with Brown was a necessary "wake-up call" and "turning point."

"That's what God was giving to me," she said. "All this terrible stuff they say to you, it breaks you down. [But] once you're back on your feet - if you ever make it back on your feet - that's the ultimate achievement."

And Rihanna knows she has, indeed, gotten back on her feet.

"I feel like I smile for real this time," she said. "The smiles come from inside, and it exudes in everything I do. People feel my energy is different. When I smile they can tell that it's pure bliss and not just a cover up."
