OMG! A CHIMPANZEE ATTACKS A WOMAN & EATS HER HANDS & FACE! SHOCKING 911 TAPE!

Charla Nash lost her hands and face in a chimp attack - but not her spirit.

"When she gets knocked down, she gets back up," her older brother, Stephen Nash, told the Daily News on Sunday.

The Connecticut woman mauled by a friend's chimpanzee Feb. 17 does not remember the attack and has asked not to be told about it.

"Her psychiatrist asked her if she wanted to know anything about the event," her brother said. "She said, 'Nope. That's in the past.'"

It's that kind of forward-looking attitude that's been helping Nash recover, he said.

"That's the way she is."

She was visiting her friend and business associate Sandra Herold in Stamford, Conn., when Herold's pet chimpanzee, Travis, attacked her, ripping off her hands, nose, lips and eyes.

Nash's twin brother, Michael, told The News she is making a miraculous - and relatively speedy - recovery.

"Her acceptance [of her injuries] just shows her courage and fortitude. She's not concerned about what happened, she just wants to get fixed," Michael Nash said.

The two brothers have been taking turns caring for Charla at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

They've also been reading her the letters sent from people around the world that are filled with expressions of support and promises of prayers.

"I think that really helped her," Michael Nash said.

Charla Nash, 55, still has a long road toward recovery, her brothers said. She sometimes has panic attacks and often dreams about the brutal assault. The chimp was eventually shot and killed by authorities.

A nurse grabbed her one night as she helped her to the bathroom. Charla began screaming, "Help me! They're hurting me!"

She does have some memory of the terrifying day - "getting out of the car and knowing something was really wrong," Michael Nash said.

And she'd mentioned that she was scared of the chimp long before he went berserk.

"She did say to me that she thought Travis could injure somebody, but she didn't think it would be her," he said.
