OAKLAND ERUPTS IN VIOLENCE AFTER THE COP THAT SHOT OSCAR GRANT GETS 2 YEARS IN PRISON! WHERE'S THE JUSTICE?

More than 150 people were arrested in Oakland, Calif. Friday night during protests that broke out after a white cop convicted of killing an unarmed black man was sentenced to two years in prison.
The protests were the latest chapter in the city's racially-charged drama over the tragic 2009 New Year's Day shooting.

A large crowd broke fences and smashed car windows hours after Johannes Mehserle, a former transit cop, received the two-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting 22-year-old Oscar Grant.

Mehserle, 28, had faced up to 14 years in prison.

"He got nothing! He got nothing!" Grant's mother, Wanda Johnson, yelled as she left the courtroom, The Associated Press reported.

The attorney representing Grant's family also expressed his disgust over the sentence.

"What you take from that is that Oscar Grant's life was not worth very much," John Burris said.

The case began in the early hours of Jan. 1, 2009 when Mehserle and other officers responded to reports of a fight on a Bay Area Rapid Transit subway platform.

Grant and his friends were rounded up and video shot by onlookers showed Grant resisting arrest. With Grant on his stomach, however, Mehserle fired a shot at point blank range into Grant's back.

Prior to his sentencing, Mehserle apologized for the shooting.

"Nothing I ever say or do will heal the wound," he said. "I will always be sorry for taking Mr. Grant from them."

Riots broke out in the city in the days following the shooting and the tension forced the trial to be moved to Los Angeles.

Oakland's mayor, Ron Dellums urged the city to remain calm.

"It is still my hope that people will express their anger, will express their disappointment, their outrage, their pain in a manner that is nonviolent, in a manner that is not destructive to our community," he said at a press conference.

Friday's protests resulted in the arrests of 152 people, the police said.
