O.J. Simpson Released From Prison After 9 Years

The juice is officially loose after being released from a Nevada prison under the cover of darkness, officials announced Sunday.

O.J. Simpson was released from the Lovelock Correctional Center shortly after midnight, local time, and walked out to a waiting driver in the facility’s parking lot before driving away, officials said.

“I don’t have any information on where he’s going,” a spokeswoman said.

The former football star’s first moments of freedom in nearly nine years were documented in a brief video posted on the Nevada Department of Corrections’s Facebook page.

“Here you go, come out,” a woman can be heard saying as Simpson walks out of the building after signing his release forms.

The dead-of-night release was intended to avoid a media circus and “to ensure public safety and reduce the potential for incident,” the Nevada Department of Corrections said in a Facebook post accompanying the video.

Simpson was freed after serving nine years of a 33 year sentence for robbing sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room back in 2007.

He was freed after being granted parole earlier this year, and will remain under supervised parole for five years, officials have said.

His five years of parole supervision could be reduced with credits for good behavior.

Simpson has said he intends to move to Florida to be closer to his children.

Simpson was accused of killing wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994 and his subsequent trial gripped the nation and unleashed furious debate over race, police and celebrity justice.
