NYU Removes Bill Cosby's Name From Film Workshop

New York University finally graduated to the ranks of institutions distancing themselves from Bill Cosby.

The school will no longer use the scandal-scarred comic’s name in conjunction with its popular "Future Filmmakers Workshop" for high school students.

NYU "removed the Cosby name in light of recent events," spokesperson Matt Nagel told the Daily News in a statement.

The university's decision was first reported on Tuesday by a student-run news blog, NYU Local. The removal reportedly occurred within the last two weeks.

Cosby hosted a series of benefit concerts to support the workshops in the 1990s. The university will continue to offer those workshops, which were started before the Cosby concerts.

It’s the latest blow to Cosby’s legacy after dozens of women have stepped forward to accuse the comic of sexual assaulting them in alleged attacks over the course of decades. Cosby, who hasn't been charged with any crimes, claims all sexual encounters were consensual.

NYU becomes the latest university to distance itself from Cosby.

Most notably, Central State University in Ohio covered Cosby's name on a sign in front of its journalism center, which had been named after him and his wife, Camille. That university is still considering whether to remove his name altogether.
