NYPD Shoots Hammer Attack Suspect Near Penn Station

A man who assaulted three women and a man in Manhattan with a hammer was shot twice in Midtown on Wednesday after violently swinging the tool at a female cop, police sources said.

The gunfire erupted at W. 37th St. and Eighth Ave. just north of Penn Station about 10 a.m., the sources said.

The man was shot once in the shoulder and once in the back, the sources said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.

His identity wasn’t immediately released.

A police source said the two cops saw the man and thought they recognized him as the suspect wanted for attacking people over a six-hour period Monday.

When they approached, he pulled the hammer out of a bag and started swinging, a police source said.

“He comes right at them and starts swinging the hammer,” the source said. “The female officer falls to the ground and the male officer opens fire.”

The female police officer was trying to get away but the man kept swinging, the source said.

“He was swinging the hammer right at her,” the source said. “She’s trying to back up. She went down. The male officer shot him. The video is unbelievable.”

Police used surveillance video and facial recognition technology to identify the man who was wanted for attacking three women during a six-hour terror spree Monday.

The attacks started when the fiend approached a 28-year-old woman sitting on a park bench in Union Square. He took the hammer from a bag and hit her in the face with it, police sources said.

About 10 minutes later he ambushed a 33-year-old woman and struck her in the back of the head on W. 17th St. near Union Square. Both women suffered minor injuries.

Hours earlier, 20-year-old man told cops somebody hit him in the back of the head about 1:45 p.m. at W. 35th St. and Sixth Ave.

A third woman also told cops somebody clocked her in the head with an unknown object at 27th St. and Madison Ave. at 5:10 p.m.

Anina Bose, 25, was a block away when she heard three shots and saw police rushing over from Penn Station.

She said the suspect was lying on Eighth Ave., a few feet from the curb.

"I heard three gunshots,” she said. “I looked over and there was a guy on the ground."

You gotta be a crazy mf to walk around & pop random people in the head …...
