Two female lawmakers horrified that rapper T.I. keeps tabs on his daughter’s virginity want to make the creepy practice a felony.
Outrage erupted after the Atlanta rapper bragged about knowing his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, isn’t having sex because a gynecologist regularly checks her hymen.
But Democratic pols, state Sen. Roxanne Persaud (D-Brooklyn) and Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages (D-Nassau), introduced new legislation that would ban doctors from performing “virginity examinations” widely denounced as unscientific and described as abusive.
“These examinations are not only a violation of women’s and girls’ human rights, but in cases of rape, can cause additional pain and mimic the original act of sexual violence, leading to re-experience, re-traumatization and re-victimization,” the lawmakers argue in the bill memo.
Licensed medical professionals conducting or supervising the bizarre purity search would face professional misconduct penalties, and if in a “non-medical” setting—could be charged with sexual abuse in the first degree, a class D felony.
“It’s misogynistic, it’s appalling,” a furious Solages told The Post in a phone interview.
“I was horrified to see this was happening. If a celebrity can impose his power to ensure his 18-year-old daughter gets checked, imagine what can be done in households across New York state?”
T.I. proudly described his daughter waving her privacy rights during an interview earlier this month.
“[The doctor is] like, ‘You know, sir, I have to, in order to share information’ — I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See, Doc? Ain’t no problem,’” he said during a now deleted episode on the “Ladies Like Us” podcast.
The United Nations and World Health Organization have both called for a global prohibition on the pelvic exams.
