Rapper Nipsey Hussle wasn’t part of an ongoing investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, according to a new report.
The New York Times reported that authorities, in conjunction with the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, were looking into alleged gang activity at the slain Grammy winner’s strip mall, though TMZ claims Hussle wasn’t the subject of the investigation.
Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, famously spoke out against gang violence and was hailed as a hero in his community by police. Sources told TMZ that both agencies weren’t specifically targeting the “Double Up” rapper and instead were focusing on abating gang activity in the area, which was a long-standing issue.
“At this time, we are not discussing any criminal investigation related to Nipsey Hussle,” a rep for the LAPD said in a statement to Page Six on Wednesday.
A rep for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office had no comment.
The property at the forefront of the investigation is where Hussle, 33, was gunned down on March 31 outside his own clothing store.
Eric Holder, 29, the man suspected of fatally shooting Hussle, was charged with murder and faces life in prison if convicted.
