Nicki Minaj has set her sights on former CNN reporter Don Lemon after he reported on a church protest in St. Paul, Minnesota, which has been accused of having ties to ICE. In a tweet shared at the tail-end of the weekend, Minaj ripped into Lemon for his apparent participation in the disruption of Sunday Service. “DON ‘COCK SUCKIN’ LEMON IS DISGUSTING,” she wrote in all-caps alongside a picture showing Chucky from the Child’s Play series. “HOW DARE YOU? I WANT THAT THUG IN JAIL!!!!! HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO ANY OTHER RELIGION. LOCK HIM UP!!!!!” Lemon, who is gay, has not responded to Minaj directly. Minaj later reposted a tweet from someone blasting Lemon, to which she added, “True or False? #ArrestDonLemon. Minaj appeared to be responding to Lemon’s reporting from the Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Sunday (Jan. 18), where tensions are high following the fatal shooting of Renee Good earlier this month. Lemon joined protestors during a livestream, in which they protested at the church due to the presence of David Easterwood, who Lemon reported is the acting field office director for ICE in St. Paul. In one clip from the stream, Lemon spoke to lead pastor Jonathan Parnell, who called the protests “unacceptable” and “shameful.” When Lemon told Parnell that First Amendment rights give people the right to freedom of speech and to protest, he dodged the question and said the church is there to “spread the love of Jesus Christ.” When asked if he talked to the protestors, he claimed that none of them were “willing to talk” with him. Lemon wanted to clear the air on the “fake right-wing propaganda” about his reporting. Several accounts on social media are accusing Lemon of leading the protest and “storming” the church. “I reported on a protest by a group that believed a pastor at the church was affiliated with ICE—that was the basis of the protest,” he wrote alongside the video. He has since clarified that he has no ties to the organization behind the protest, and he was just there to report on the situation and speak to those involved.
