Nicki Minaj Says The Entertainment Industry Will Kill You

Nicki Minaj is murdering the rap game. But she insists it's the entertainment industry that will kill you.

"The business kills so many people and we don't even realize it," the 31-year-old rapper told The Fader magazine's Fall Fashion Issue.

The "Starships" rapper was referencing a previous comment she made during her BET Awards acceptance speech when she indicated having a near-death experience that she didn't want to alert medics about in order to avoid ending up "on TMZ."

"I can only imagine how many people in the business have died because they may not have wanted to … be embarrassed publicly," she continued. "We care so much about what the world thinks that we don't live, really."

Minaj's death scare set her on a path of clarity, although she's never divulged the specifics of her life-threating incident.

"It made me realize, I don't care what anybody gotta say," she added in her BET speech. "I'ma do me. I'ma do me."

And that's exactly what she's doing.

The Queens-born rapper's lyrical skills are undeniable and even rival her male counterparts as fans anticipate her third studio release, "The Pink Print."

"Every time I do a business venture or something that isn't the norm for a female rapper, I pat myself on the back," she told the mag.

"It's important that corporate America can see a young black woman being able to sell things outside of music."

Aside from her chart-topping hits, the "Moment 4 Life" rapper is knee-deep in endorsements deals with Pepsi, MAC cosmetics, Barbie and Adidas, to name a few. Now she's set to embark on a new venture with the Home Shopping Network.

"A female rapper!" she said proudly. "With HSN!"

Minaj has set out on a quest all her own, but leaves a trail of inspiration for her fans — or Barbs, as she likes to call them — behind her.

But for the emcee, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj, her greatest influence has been on her 16-year-old brother, Micaiah, who she had to leave behind when her career took off.

"One day he asked my mother, 'Do you ever think there'll come a time we all live in the same house again, and Onika will be back and she'll have her room, and I'll have my room?'" she told Fader for the issue on newsstands Aug. 26. "And it just broke my heart."

As she shed her hard-core demeanor Minaj added, "I don't want to get emotional. I just miss them. Every time I talk about them, I get emotional."
