Nicki Minaj "Only" Video Criticized For Nazi Themes

Nicki Minaj is catching flack from critics claiming she shamelessly flouts Nazi-themed imagery in her new video.

The lyric video for the single "Only"released online on Saturday shows the Queens-raised rapper as a fascist-looking figure presiding before an army of soldiers wearing red arm bands.

The logo for her record label, Young Money, appears on large red-and-black banners, looking very much like swastika flags.

Amid the stream of warmongering animation, Lil' Wayne, Drake and Chris Brown, who are featured on the track, appear styled as a corporate tycoon, the Pope and a general.

Almost immediately, critics on social media began slamming Minaj for glorifying Nazism and intentionally referencing Third Reich propaganda.

The Anti-Defamation League said in a statement that it was "deeply disturbed by the unadulterated Nazi imagery."

"The irony should be lost on no one that this video debuted on the 76th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the 'night of broken glass' pogrom that signaled the beginning of the Final Solution and the Holocaust," ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman said.

"It is troubling that no one among Minaj’s group of producers, publicists and managers raised a red flag about the use of such imagery before ushering the video into public release," said Foxman, a Holocaust survivor. "This video is insensitive to Holocaust survivors and a trivialization of the history of that era. The abuse of Nazi imagery is deeply disturbing and offensive to Jews and all those who can recall the sacrifices Americans and many others had to make as a result of Hitler’s Nazi juggernaut."

Minaj, who hosted the MTV European Music Awards in Scotland on Sunday, hasn't responded to the controversy, but the video's director, Jeff Osborne, has acknowledged the outcry on Twitter, Vulture reported.

The run-up to the release of the 31-year-old rapper's second album, "The Pink Print," has been accompanied by a parade of controversy, beginning with the racy cover and raunchy video for the single "Anaconda."
