NICK CANNON, who has been hospitalized in recent weeks for kidney failure and blood clots, is leaving the morning show at WXRK (92.3 FM).
“Under doctor’s orders, I have been asked to cut back on some of my professional commitments to allow my body to get the rest it needs to keep up with the demands of my multitasking schedule,” Cannon said in a statement.
“Even Superman has to sleep.”
He says he will continue to host the syndicated “Cannon’s Countdown,” as well as his main TV gig, “America’s Got Talent.”
He is also involved in other TV, music and production projects, and he and his wife, Mariah Carey, are the new parents of twins.
He called it “an absolute pleasure working with CBS Radio and the 92.3 Now morning show team,” and said he will contribute to the station “whenever possible.”
Cannon started on WXRK in January 2010 as a star player in the station’s campaign to challenge long-time ruler WHTZ (100.3 FM) for New York’s top-40 audience.
Now has had some success, reaching the top 10 among its younger target audience. It has not significantly dented Z100, however, and WXRK program director Dom Theodore recently left.
