Iconic New York City DJ Big Kap, best known for his 1999 album “The Tunnel” with Funkmaster Flex, has died at the age of 45.
Flex broke the tragic news on his Instagram page Tuesday morning.
“Rest in peace.... Big Kap...,” Flex wrote on two separate posts, both featuring photos of the later musician.
Big Kap, born Keith Carter, appeared on “The Tunnel” alongside Flex and many other rap legends, including Jay Z, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Method Man, Snoop Dogg, LL Cool J and Nas.
Radio personality Peter Rosenberg posted an emotional message to his Instagram page after hearing of Big Kap’s passing.
“Woke up to terrible news today ... We lost Big Kap .... Not only a great DJ, key part of the flip squad and big dog pit bulls , and incredible talker with a unique and awesome voice but more than anything -- great guy,” he wrote.
“...always good for a warm smile and a sincere conversation... Was always very fond of this guy ever since I met him .. RIP brother... Sending love and positive vibes to his family.”
Questlove from The Roots and De La Soul also posted tributes to the rapper.
