NBA player Matt Barnes welcomed the New Year by taking some angry shots at Knicks coach Derek Fisher in an epic online rant.
Barnes didn’t name Fisher directly but made it clear he was ripping into the “former teammate and friend” who was at his estranged wife Gloria Govan's southern California house last October when the men got into a heated confrontation.
A police report summary obtained by the Daily News through a public records request confirmed someone called cops after Barnes “loudly and angrily” melted down at Govan’s residence and had to be “restrained by witnesses.”
Barnes said 2015 “hands down was the worst year of my life” in the emotional Instagram post that lamented his trade to the Memphis Grizzlies, his breakup with Govan and his backyard brawl with Fisher.
“Last BUT NOT LEAST... Being stuck in the ‘triangle offense’ w my ex & snitch, I mean former teammate & friend.. Who went behind my back, messed w my ex, got caught, got dealt w for being a snake, then ran & told the Police & NBA.. Instead of taken that a-- whoopin like a man & kept it moving,” Barnes wrote in his post.
“Guess cause I didn’t SNITCH, I get a 2 game suspension by the league They call that LIFE,” he wrote.
He also said he was “lied on by a pop star” — a thinly veiled reference to his claims he dated Rihanna and her subsequent denial they were an item.
“All this played out like a bad reality show, a nightmare, for your amusement & entertainment! For you to critique, make fun of, crack jokes & laugh about,” Barnes wrote.
“I was never perfect in my relationship, I didn’t see eye to eye w my head coach.. I was warned SEVERAL times about ole girl & I introduced love ones to people who I ‘thought were FRIENDS’... Lesson Learned!!” he continued.
He expressed sympathy for others who also had a tough year and urged them to stay positive.
“It’s not about how many times you fall down, it’s about how many times you get up!” he said.
After the confrontation with Fisher in October, Barnes told ESPN he initially went to the house to check on his 6-year-old twin sons with Govan. He said the boys appeared during a FaceTime call to be “uncomfortable” with Fisher in the house.
Fisher, who split with his wife in March, later said he discussed the situation with Knicks President Phil Jackson.
