A mother whose young kids died after their mobile home was consumed by flames in Nevada faces manslaughter charges, police said on Saturday.
The children - Elliot Chad Broadhead, 1; Zachary Randell Broadhead 4; and Brandon Micheal Smith, 5 - died along with their 24-year-old babysitter, Crystal Smiley, after at least one of the kids is believed to have started the blaze last week in Pahrump, just west of Las Vegas, investigators said.
All three of the children were pulled from the burning home by firefighters, but later died at the hospital, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Smiley called 911 while trapped in the blaze, but was killed by smoke inhalation.
Sharon Broadhead, who was in the home at the time, was charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of child abuse. Authorities said in a news release she failed to take "preventive measures" to keep her children away from materials possibly used to start the fire.
In fact, the 29-year-old may have knowingly kept fire starting materials within reach of the children, despite the fact that they allegedly started several fires before, KTNV 13 News reported.
"The lack of supervision was not an isolated incident," the Nye County Sheriff's Office said.
The two children previously "destroyed an entire room [by] putting holes in the walls and starting fires" using pillows and paper "on at least [two] occasions," police said.
At least one of the children is suspected of starting the deadly blaze, although the cause of the fire was not included in the news release. Police did indicate that a lighter belonging to Broadhead used to create a previous fire was missing from her purse the day the fire killed the children.
THAT'S CRAZY! WHY IS SHE GETTING CHARGED? IF ONE OF HER KIDS IS A PYROMANIAC THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN ALWAYS WATCH THEM! SHE DIDN'T START THE FIRE & SHE LOST HER 3 KIDS! LEAVE THAT LADY ALONE!
