A Staten Island mother was arrested for burning her 11-year-old son with a red-hot butter knife to "teach him a lesson," law enforcement sources said.
Mervat Elhanafy, 39, heated the dull blade on a stove before scorching her son, Huesaen Ahmed, on his legs and left arm at their Fresh Kills home about 12 p.m. Tuesday, court papers show.
"She told police that the kid was acting up," said a law enforcement source. "She said she wanted to teach him a lesson."
The heated blade burned the child so bad his skin blistered, according to the court papers.
Huesaen called 911 on his mother, and police responded to their home and slapped cuffs on her.
Elhanafy was later booked for assault, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon.
Her son is in stable condition at Staten Island University Hospital, where he was treated for his burns.
