Mistrial In Former Wu-Tang Clan Producer's Sex Assault Case

A former Wu-Tang Clan producer beat one rap in Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday, but prosecutors say they aren't done with him yet.

Derrick (True Master) Harris, 43, was hit with numerous charges in 2011 for allegedly beating up one woman and sexually assaulting another, and then escaping custody after his arrest.

He was acquitted of one of the sex assault charges, but Justice Abraham Clott declared a mistrial on the other six counts against him after jurors complained there was one holdout.

Earlier this week, one juror complained to the judge that one of her fellow panelists was loudly griping before deliberations that the prosecution was engaged in "character assassination" against Harris, who represented himself during the trial.

The judge said he was declaring the mistrial because one of the jurors had travel plans on Monday, and Harris refused to proceed with either 11 jurors or an alternate taking that juror's place.

A spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney's office said, "We are weighing our options regarding the possibility of a retrial on the remaining counts."
