Mike Tyson Reveals He Was Sexually Abused As A Child

Boxing champ Mike Tyson revealed that he was sexually assaulted by a stranger when he was a child.

Tyson opened up about the experience on SiriusXM's Opie Radio show Wednesday, recalling how he was briefly kidnapped by a man he didn't know.

"I was a little kid, 7," Tyson told co-host Jim Norton. "Old man, yea."

"Was it one time or ongoing?" Norton asked.

"No, one time," Tyson said. "Never seen him again….snatched me off the street."

"He abused you and just let you go or did you escape?" Norton said.

"Well, I ran," Tyson said.

The admission appeared to catch Norton and the other two hosts, Opie Hughes and Dan Soder, off guard.

The trio sat in silence for a few moments — "Awkward," Hughes nervously mumbled — before continuing on with a conversation about depression and emotional turmoil.

Asked if he "drastically changed" after the experience, Tyson said, "I don't know if I did or not."

"I'm not embarrassed or ashamed of anything from that perspective," the former champ said.

Tyson, who has been forthcoming about his struggles with addiction and mental illness since he stepped away from the sport in 2005, appeared on the show to promote his new series "Mike Tyson Mysteries."

The animated series, which appears on Adult Swim, stars Tyson as a pigeon-keeping detective who solves mysteries.

In a statement to ABC News, Tyson's rep said, "He is in a good place in his life with sobriety, family and career."
