Michael Che Says Kanye West Eventually Apologized For 'SNL' Tirade

Michael Che said that he and Kanye West made amends, long after the rapper-producer launched into a rant about the comedian during a 2018 visit on Saturday Night Live. In the tirade, Ye voiced his support of President Donald Trump during his first term, and slammed SNL for using a "Black comedian," in this case, Che, to joke about Bill Cosby. Che and Ye would go on to have a run-in after the show's taping, an encounter that was captured in new documentary about West, In Whose Name? But in a September 25 interview on SiriusXM's The Bonfire SXM, Che claimed that Ye apologized to him "years later" after "not behaving like himself" on the 2018 episode. "I remember like everybody–we were trying so hard to accommodate him," Che said around the 4:45-minute mark "We were trying very hard. And then when that happened and he made it seem like we was bullying him, and I was like, 'Why would you say that? Like, what happened that made you [feel] that way?'" Che recalled. The comedian added that the next time he saw Ye was during Eddie Murphy's SNL hosting, when "every Black person in Hollywood" was present. While Che's dressing room was being used as a green room, he was walking through the hallway when he came across the Bully artist. "And I'm walking through the hallway and [Ye’s] coming out the elevator bay and as soon as he sees me, he goes, 'I owe you an apology,'" Che said. "And I hadn't seen him in years. I didn't even know if he remembered that that happened because he was saying so much," he continued. And he was like, 'I owe you an apology.' And we talked and I never brought it up again." Previously speaking on the confrontation was Consequence, who said that he first suggested that the men "reconvene," before threatening to "go outside.
