After a year of social media slander, disrespectful memes and legal troubles, MMG signee Meek Mill is finally speaking out in a new interview.
Who could forget the beef heard ’round the world? Last summer, after calling out Drake for using ghostwriters to pen his lyrics, Meek became entangled in a feud with the 6 God. Like many battles in hip-hop, fans chose their sides, however, the winner of the battle between the Toronto native and the Philly MC seemed to have been determined by the Internet’s master meme-ists.
Despite the taunts, Meek reveals to My Mixtapez Charm LaDonna that he kept his head up through it all.
“I remember last year watching people, everybody going against me about a diss record,” he told her. “I remember looking at it like ‘Ya’ll really think this gon’ stop me? You think telling me I’m going on my girlfriend’s [Nicki Minaj] tour is going to stop me? Is that a joke?’ Last year in the position I was in, a lot of people was going with like a wave of like I was actually losing, but my life was good. The Internet is kind of uncontrollable where people go with their own ways … It’s a world of cowards where people get behind a computer and type anything.”
Meek also got candid about his upcoming mixtape, Dreamchasers 4. This “reintroduction” serves as an inspiration for Meek to keep proving himself to his haters and doubters.
“I’ve been going through real things,” he says. “I like to take my time. Me? I never let fans determine when I drop my music. I never moved off the word of a fan. People can’t just tell me ‘Drop music tomorrow.’ I don’t do it like that. I move on my own timing. If anybody know me, you been in the booth with me, you know, I create my own. I don’t got a writing team…when it comes to me putting these things together, it’s me.”
