According To Confidenti@l:
Meek Mill may be a star — but the tardy “Tupac Back” rapper still needs to show some respect to those richer and more famous.
The rapper held a top-secret listening party for his debut solo album, “Dreams and Nightmares,” in a legendary venue Wednesday night, but by the time he arrived, the guests with the most wattage — Jay-Z and Will Smith — were history.
“Jay-Z and Will arrived around 8:45,” says an insider. “But [Mill] was late, so they missed him.”
He’s collaborated on tracks with Rick Ross and Drake, and Mill’s coming-out party drew stars like fellow Philadelphian Smith and Hova to W. Eighth St.’s legendary Electric Lady Studio, the venue Jimi Hendrix opened weeks before his death in 1970. Artists including Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder and David Bowie have recorded there. According to sources, The Dream, Estelle, Victor Cruz and DeSean Jackson also attended Mill’s fete.
Mill hopes the music will soon replace his current claim to fame: Being at June’s bottle-throwing battle royale between Chris Brown and Drake at VIP nightclub. The 25-year-old rapper was part of Drake’s posse that evening when the melee broke out between Brown and Drake, both of whom have been romantically linked to singer Rihanna.
Rihanna is on Jay-Z’s label.
Though Jay-Z didn’t stick around for long, sources tell Confidenti@l he was there to check on how well guests were enjoying a brand of liquor that he became the spokesman for this summer.
“Jay-Z wanted to see how the D’Ussé cognac was being received by people at the party," says the insider.
Wale, who appears on “Dreams and Nightmares,” also arrived late to the party. A second source tells us he was preoccupied earlier in the night with model Jessica White.
The model, briefly linked to actor Sean Penn in 2010, and the 28-year-old Wale were both presenters at the Paper Magazine Nightlife Awards at Webster Hall.
“They posed on the carpet together, then stayed by each other’s side the rest of the night” at the event, says the source, adding that White and Wale “definitely exchanged numbers before he left for Mill’s event.”
Mill features Nas, Rick Ross, Mary J. Blige, Big Sean and a number of other industry heavy hitters on his upcoming album, which is due out Oct. 30.
