Rihanna may need to do a better background check on the men she dates.
As first reported by Star magazine, RiRi's new boyfriend, L.A. Dodger Matt Kemp, was accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend, Felisha Terrell, who went as far as to file a restraining order against him in 2008.
An agent for the 25-year-old baseball player, however, insists that the court order is a "nonissue."
"Matt dated Felisha about two years ago and decided to end their relationship," agent Dave Stewart said in a statement to E! News. "She chose to file a complaint and shortly thereafter, on her own accord, decided to drop it based on the fact that the statements made within were false. She has very recently said that she has no issue whatsoever with Matt and that she and Matt consider this to be a nonissue."
However Terrell doesn't seem to agree with her ex. Her attorney, David D. Diamond, told TMZ.com that his client never lied in the statement.
"The temporary restraining order was granted because of an actual and real threat. The matter was quietly resolved until Mr. Kemp's agent began making false public statements," he said. "...my hope is that Ms. Terrell tells her story, because it is a compelling tale of betrayal, abuse and survival."
Despite writing, "I am fearful of [Kemp's] erratic behavior," in the statement, Terrell filed a motion to vacate the restraining order on Aug. 19, 2008.
According to E! News, Kemp drove by Terrell's apartment on multiple occasions, but only because he didn't want to go in to retrieve his personal items if she was there.
"Matt has never, would never, put his hands on a woman," the source said. "His mother and grandmother are the most important people in his life. This rumor is more painful to him because of those relationships."
Rihanna, 21, knows the subject of abuse all too well. The singer was beaten and bruised by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown following an argument the couple had over another woman. Brown was sentenced to five years probation and 180 days of community labor in June.
