A father knows his children best.
Just ask Mathew Knowles, who told Wendy Williams he “laughed” after watching footage of daughter Solange Knowles attack Jay-Z in an elevator following the May 2014 Met Gala.
“I have to tell you, I laughed so hard. I laughed so hard because, if you know Solange — that’s Solange,” the 66-year-old quipped.
“You just never know what you’re going to get … firecracker,” he added. “Don’t know where she get that from…”
He did not elaborate on the cause of the fight, where Solange is seen on surveillance footage shouting and kicking the rapper, while Beyoncé quietly looks on from the corner.
Insiders told Page Six at the time that a drunk Solange was spotted arguing with Rachel Roy at the Standard Hotel, where the snafu occurred.
It was highly speculated that Roy had some involvement in the matter.
Soon after the altercation, the family released a statement. “Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred,” it read in part. “They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”
Months later in the summer of 2014, Beyoncé released a remix of “Flawless,” in which she sings the lyrics, “Of course sometimes s–t go down/ When it’s a billion dollars on an elevator.”
