A camouflage-wearing thug stabbed a man to death outside the main post office in midtown Sunday because the victim bumped into him, police said.
The sidewalk encounter about 5:45 p.m. caused the thug to fly into a murderous rage and stab the 20-year-old victim twice on the steps outside the James A. Farley Post Office on Eighth Ave. near 33rd St., police said.
"They were walking down the street and one guy bumped into the other," the source said.
The killer fled the scene and cops were hunting him last night.
The victim, who was not immediately identified by cops, was stabbed twice in the upper torso and was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital, police said.
Cops used crime scene tape to block off an area on the famed steps of the landmark building across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.
The stabbing was photographed by a German tourist, who showed the pictures to police investigators.
A witness left the Midtown South Precinct stationhouse after being interviewed by detectives.
