"Sesame Street" was brought to you Tuesday by the letter R — as in recant.
The man who charged the 52-year-old puppeteer/voice of the beloved character Elmo with bedding him at age 16 admitted his allegations against Kevin Clash were false.
The unidentified accuser “wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship,” said a statement from the Pennsylvania law firm Andreozzi & Associates.
“He will have no further comment on the matter.”
The vindicated Clash, who was placed on a leave of absence from “Sesame Street” when the charges went public, was pleased to see the sordid claims and attention in his rear view mirror.
“I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest,” said the man whose voice is familiar to two generations of kids. “I will not discuss it further.”
It was unclear when Clash — who has served as Elmo’s Emmy-winning alter ego since 1984 — could return to his role as the furry red critter. Clash’s statement made no mention of any date for his reprise of the role.
“We are pleased that this matter has been brought to a close, and we are happy that Kevin can move on from this unfortunate episode,” Sesame Workshop said without elaborating.
The scandal started when the now-23-year-old man contacted Sesame Workshop in June with his claims.
Clash, the divorced dad of a 19-year-old daughter, was outed by the allegations first reported by TMZ.com. But he immediately insisted there was nothing untoward about the relationship, saying that the young man was not underage when they got together.

Like Sesame Street didn't pay him to take it all back
