Former "Jersey Shore" cast member Angelina Pivarnick's red-carpet proposal last week may have been more show than substance.
Only hours after David Kovacs popped the question on bended knee, he reportedly lashed out at Pivarnick via text message calling her "a bad evil person!" according to RadarOnline.com.
The harsh words don't fit the bill for a couple in love - but they might fit a duo in cahoots to work the paparazzi for personal gain. A Radar source close to Kovacs said the engagement is just a "publicity stunt" meant to advance the pair's individual careers.
According to the source, Kovacs proposed because he believes MTV producers will eventually bring Pivarnick, 22, back to the "Shore." And by extension, Kovacs believes he'll be asked to join the show if the pair is engaged. Pivarnick is aiming higher, hoping the engagement will land her a spin-off.
Kovacs's fiery text may have been spurred by a post-proposal panic attack, according to Radar.
The couple has reportedly known each other for several years, but it is unknown when things turned romantic.
As recently as November, Pivarnick was rumored to be dating Justin Rego of "The Bachelorette." According to Radar, the self-proclaimed "Kim Kardashian of Staten Island" has also been seeing a Staten Island firefighter named Ivan.
And while Pivarnick is the first of the "Jersey Shore" cast to land herself a fiancé, it is highly unlikely her engagement will end in a trip down the aisle.
"They aren't even friends on Facebook," the source told Radar. "The whole thing is weird."
