Is Lady Gaga sending a monstrous message to her fans?
“Just killed back to back spin classes,” she tweeted this week. “Eating a salad and dreaming of a cheeseburger.”
She then included the hashtag #PopSingersDon’tEat.
Just two months ago, Gaga confessed to a roomful of girls that she’d struggled with servere bulimia that nearly wrecked her vocal chords.
“Weight is still a struggle. Every video I’m in, every magazine cover, they stretch you — they make you perfect,” she said at a conference in Brentwood, Calif. “It’s not real life.”
She begged the young women in the room to reconsider the dangerous decision to self-starve.
“I’m gonna say this about girls: The dieting wars have got to stop,” she said.
For some fans who love Gaga for the “love yourself today” sentiment behind her pop smash “Born This Way” the tweet was disappointing and hurtful.
“What happened to "I'm beautiful in my way coz God makes no mistakes?" @mirahAnnoyer wrote.
The National Eating Disorders Association joined the fray, asking, “This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?”
Some defended Gaga, saying she was poking fun that the media’s expectations of celebrity perfection.
Others said Gaga had the right idea, especially in light of skyrocketing obesity rates.
“#saladandaspinclass woud be a healthy change for most!” wrote masquer08er.
Gaga may want to consider sticking to tweeting about tour dates and her latest styles.
In another tweet from this week, she dubbed herself “Princess Xena of Xanaxland.”
Some of her fans aren’t mad — just worried.
“You really bothered some monsters with that Xanax tweet,” wrote @GagaApostle. “Should we be concerned?”
