A Bronx jeweler shot at a trio of thieves who robbed his shop Wednesday - hitting one of the bandits in the leg, police sources said.

Sources said two people - a man dressed in a suit and a long, plaid tweed coat and a female - waltzed into Spinelli Jewelers with a leather briefcase about 2 p.m.

Another man, also donning a suit, paced outside the Arthur Ave. shop in the Belmont section and served as a lookout, sources said.

The owner, Anthony Spinelli - who neighbors said usually works alone - buzzed the pair inside. The duo marched in and put a gun to Spinelli's head, demanding the contents of his safe, sources said.

But Spinelli was able to grab his licensed pistol and began firing at the two bandits, who ducked from the shots and fled, sources said.

It was not immediately clear what the pair stole before sprinting out of the store.

Their partner standing outside saw them run and made a dash toward them, but couldn't catch up before the enraged Spinelli came out with the gun, police sources and witnesses said.

"The owner comes out and tries to chase them," said witness Moses Pagan, 42. "He came out with a gun in his right hand."

Spinelli squeezed off at least two rounds, hitting the left leg of the third man, sources said.

"The guy dropped to the ground," Pagan said. "He was yelling, screaming. He was in a lot of pain."

The man was transported to nearby St. Barnabas to be treated for the injury. Charges were pending.

Witnesses said the crew didn't look like typical crooks.

"Nobody would've thought they were robbers," said Jamel Bell, 35, noting the crew's fancy clothes.

Cops were still searching for the other two suspects.

Police roped off a Mercedes-Benz with Wisconsin plates that was parked at a fire hydrant across the street. The white sports utility vehicle had its four-way signals flashing.
