A key witness in a Bronx murder trial was tailed by hoods and warned not to testify - the latest threat in a "Godfather"-style intimidation campaign, prosecutors said.
"They called him a rat and told him to keep his f-----g mouth shut," Bronx Assistant District Attorney Josh Gradinger said of witness Tekoa Moore.
"They knew exactly where he lived. Somebody got to him."
Moore is now too scared to testify.
Prosecutors believe Carlos Santos, one of three defendants in the case, deployed the goon squad while jailed at Rikers Island.
Santos allegedly confessed his role in the 2004 murder of a bordello bouncer to his old pal Moore, who recounted it in grand jury testimony.
"He had incentive to eliminate him as a witness," Gradinger said.
Santos' lawyer, Kyle Watters, said prosecutors can't link his client to any threats.
If Moore refuses to take the stand to testify, prosecutors want his grand jury testimony read into evidence, but the defense is balking. The judge will rule next week.
The threats against Moore mark the second time a witness in this case has been intimidated. In November, defendant Daniel Carbuccia allegedly ordered friends to frighten a star witness with tactics inspired by "The Godfather: Part II." The witness testified anyway.
