A jailed Illinois man's attempt to escape prison went awry when he got stuck in the ceiling, just four days after he was incarcerated.
Ryan Cleary, 20, climbed into the suspended ceiling of the Kendall County Jail on Monday morning, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. He was later discovered by authorities hiding 25 feet on top of the ventilation duct work, which had been sealed off during construction.
The Montgomery resident "was in the ceiling with no means of escape and still within the Secure Detention Facility," Kendall County Corrections Commander Sabrina Jennings said of the ill-conceived plan.
Cleary was being held at the jail for aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest. He'll now face charges for attempted escape and criminal damage to state property.
Cleary's escape attempt is the second at the jail, which has been in use since 1992, according to the Daily Herald. The first occurred in 1998 when an inmate was caught chipping away at the wall inside of his jail cell.
