Lil Wayne - Light Up Freestyle by user414006 Lil Wayne has blogged from the bing and hosted a mixtape from prison, and now the Cash Money Records superstar has kicked a rhyme from behind bars.
Weezy recorded a verse for Drake's "Light Up" featuring Jay-Z; the original track is set to appear on the Toronto MC's forthcoming debut, Thank Me Later, slated for a June 15 release.
Drizzy premiered the number Tuesday night during a Ustream session with Jas Prince, the son of legendary Rap-A-Lot Record founder J. Prince.
"I'm feeling like Elvis, 'Jailhouse Rock,' " Wayne raps via telephone. "I'm not 2Pac, I'm the new 'Pac/ Behind bars, but the bars don't stop/ Recording over the phone, I hope the call don't drop/ Drizzy got the ball, I know the ball won't drop/ And I pray none of my kids ever wanna be Pop."
Drake first hinted at the "Light Up" remix during his listening session in New York last week.
The Young Money recording artist visited his mentor prior to the session and later told MTV 2 "Sucker Free" host DJ Envy that he and Wayne would release a joint project.
The album version features only Drake and Jay-Z as the two rappers trade rhymes about their experience in the rap game.
Drake told MTV News in March that the track is similar to the advice and conversations he has with the Brooklyn wordsmith.
"It's just me and Jay both rapping on it for an extended period of time," Drake explained "It's real rap. I do sing on it, but it's just on the hook. It's great. The perspective, the dynamic on the track — it's me and Jay's relationship on the song, basically. When you hear it, people will be like, 'Oh man.' That's how we are — just the two. He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his words and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conversations with Jay."
