It took only minutes for Lil Wayne to acknowledge his current legal dispute with Cash Money honcho Birdman at the Billboard Hot 100 Festival on Saturday, Aug. 22.
"Before I get started, I just wanna say, I appreciate every one of you out here," he said, shortly after taking the Hot 100 stage at 6:30 p.m. "I would like to thank you for standing by me for all the bullshit I've been going through."
The tension between Wayne and Birdman has mounted significantly since the top of 2015. After years of doing business together, the two began publicly feuding late last year when Wayne said that his oft-delayed album, Tha Carter 5, was being held up by Cash Money.
Since then, Wayne made the dispute a legal matter, reportedly filing a $51 million lawsuit against Birdman and Cash Money for keeping his career hostage. Birdman retaliated this summer, allegedly throwing a drink at Wayne during a performance.
