Lil Nas X Doubts He Would’ve Come Out If He Still Lived With Parents

Lil Nas X shared the “nerve-racking” experience of coming out to his father in a new interview with Billboard.

The young rapper, 20, revealed that he came out as gay to his old man just weeks before declaring it publicly via Twitter, admitting, “It’s something I never probably would have did if I was still living with my parents. I have that independence to do it, you know?”

The multi-genre artist came out publicly in June in honor of Pride month, asking fans to take a closer listen to his song “C7osure.”

“Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more,” X wrote, “but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.”

He also tweeted a picture of the 7 EP cover artwork, which includes the image of a building lit with rainbow-colored lights, something X thought was an “obvious” giveaway.

Nas X’s “Old Town Road” became the longest-reigning #1 hit in the 61-year history of the “Billboard” Hot 100 in July.
