Lil Durk’s Murder-For-Hire Trial Postponed To October Due To “Unusual Circumstances

Lil Durk‘s murder-for-hire trial has been rescheduled. According to new court documents, Durkio’s trial, which was initially set to begin on Tuesday (Jan. 7), has now been moved to Oct. 14. Legal reporter Meghann Cuniff reported that the high-profile case now involves “approximately 230 GB of digital evidence such as audio/video recordings and surveillance footage, and approximately 20,000 pages of reports concerning murder and other violent acts, photographs, witness statements, and medical documents.” The legal stipulation documents explain that due to the number of defendants and “the nature of the prosecution,” the case “is so unusual and so complex that it is unreasonable to expect adequate preparation for pretrial proceedings or for the trial itself within the Speedy Trial Act time limits.” Cuniff also shared documents stating that Deandre Dontrell Wilson, 33, a Durk associate, had requested a “pre-plea sentence report” for his portion of the case via a lawyer. Federal prosecutors have maintained that Lil Durk, né Durk Devontay Banks, previously explained via lyrics how he wanted the hit on Saviay’a Robinson, Quando Rondo’s cousin, to be done. The feds pointed to Durk’s verse on Babyface Ray’s song “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy,” where Durkio raps, “Told me they got an addy/ Got location, green light/ Look on the news and see your son/ You screamin’, ‘No, no.’ The murder took place in 2022, and Babyface Ray’s track was released that same year. Federal prosecutors have surmised that the murder-for-hire plot was laid out and followed through as the track served as a call to action and alleged recollection of the hit. In early November, Banks was hit with a series of new charges from the Department of Justice, in his case, including, “one count of conspiracy, one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. Durk’s attorney offering up 3.3 million in cash and property, the rapper has been denied bond and remains in custody.
