Lauryn Hill made an appearance in Connecticut Monday.
But the former Fugees singer and rapper wasn’t there to perform. Instead, Hill checked into the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury to serve a 3-month sentence for tax evasion, reports TMZ.
At 11:15 a.m. July 8 the New Jersey native reported to the “minimum security type facility” where she will live among the general population in “barracks type” housing. After her 3-month stint behind bars she’ll serve an additional three months under house arrest.
Hill, 38, pleaded guilty to three counts of tax evasion last year for failing to file returns on earnings from 2005 to 2007 totaling $1.8 million.
“I shuddered during sentencing when I kept hearing the term ‘make the IRS whole,’” she recently wrote on her Tumblr page. “Make the IRS whole, knowing that I got into these very circumstances having to deal with the very energies of inequity and resistance that created and perpetuated these savage inequalities.”
