Lamar Odom pleaded no contest Monday to a drunken driving charge, and accepted a sentence of three years' probation and three months of alcohol abuse treatment.
In a deal with prosecutors, Odom, 34, entered the plea to one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence and was also ordered to pay $1,814 in fines and penalties, Los Angeles city attorney's spokesman Frank Matelja told The Associated Press.
Odom had faced a maximum sentence of six months in jail.
The status of his suspended driver's license will be determined at a separate hearing in front of the Department of Motor Vehicles, the AP reports.
Richard Hutton, the NBA star’s lawyer, appeared in court to enter the plea for him. The sentence dealt another blow to Odom's attempts to return to the NBA, as he is currently out of the league and unsigned as a free agent, and the future of his career remains uncertain.
He met with Clippers coach Doc Rivers last month, but Rivers said he was simply expressing an interest in Odom and that "it really didn't go much further than that,” the AP reports.
Odom was arrested on Aug. 30 after his Mercedes-Benz SUV was spotted weaving on a freeway in the Studio City section of Los Angeles. Per the AP, the California Highway Patrol said the vehicle was observed traveling in a "serpentine manner."
In the midst of his arrest, Odom endured marital issues with his wife, E! reality starlet Khloe Kardashian, and battled an alleged drug addiction.
He has remained mostly silent since his arrest, apart from tweeting in September suggesting that the Kardashian family was "the ONLY ones that have been here consistently 4 me during this dark time.”
Odom made the comments after his father, Joe Odom, slammed the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” clan while speaking to gossip sites about his son.
“Only person 2 blame is myself," the basketball star said in defense of his famous family.
No more f**kin' with them chore boys cause he's gonna get random drug testing!
