IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

LADY GAGA TAKES HOME 8 MOON MEN & SHE CRIED FOR EVERY ONE! THIS IS FOR MY LITTLE MONSTERS! LOL!

Lady Gaga didn't even have to buy a new dress to run the table at the Video Music Awards Sunday night.
The fashion-and-dance diva scored statuettes in all five categories in which she was nominated, including Video of the Year for "Bad Romance."

In categories in which she was not nominated, teen-and-tween heartthrob Justin Bieber won for Best New Artist, 30 Seconds to Mars won Best Rock Video for "Kings and Queens" and Eminem grabbed a pair of statuettes for Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video.

Gaga surprised some fans less with her multiple victories than by arriving for the show in the same Alexander McQueen dress she wore in September's Vanity Fair.

The dress was one of the last designed by McQueen before he committed suicide.

Gaga later changed outfits twice, as is her practice.

In the end, her sweep rescued a night when presenters, honorees and attendees were almost eerily well-behaved and several potential dramas did not materialize.

The much-promoted Kanye West and Taylor Swift Show, Version 2.0, generated little of the spontaneous spark that made the original one of last year's most-discussed television moments. The 2009 flash point came when West barged onstage while Swift was accepting the Best Female Video award, declaring that Beyoncé should have won it. West apologized, but the blowback lingered, and he recently tweeted that it had crippled his career.

MTV naturally booked both artists for Sunday night's show, with broad hints each had written a song about the encounter.

Swift's pop song seemed sympathetic, suggesting West is still growing and finding himself.

West closed the show with a rap that also seemed to be about himself, swinging between frustration ("they always find something wrong") and wry confession ("let's have a toast to the s---bag").

It was Lady Gaga's night, however, and "Bad Romance" also won Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video and Best Female Video. Her other award was Best Collaboration, for "Telephone" with Beyoncé. Her acceptance speeches were all polite, while those of another often volatile character, Eminem, were nonexistent. After he opened the show with a medley of "Not Afraid" and his Rihanna duet, "Love the Way You Lie," he left to fly to New York for his concert tonight with Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium.

Host Chelsea Handler was uneven, leaning heavily on sex jokes, and MTV filled the gaps through the night with frequent plugs for its "Jersey Shore," "Jackass" and Kardashian shows.

Television viewers also got to see Lindsay Lohan win an unofficial honorary good sport award. In a surprise skit with Handler, Lohan demanded to know what was in a drink Handler was holding, and said, "You think anyone would work with a drunk?"
