L.A. Reid Settles Drew Dixon Sexual Assault Lawsuit Ahead Of Trail

Drew Dixon announced a settlement in her sexual assault lawsuit against record mogul L.A. Reid. Reid is a producer, executive, and label founder who has played key roles in the careers of icons like OutKast, TLC, Usher, Toni Braxton, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Ciara, Mariah Carey, and more. Dixon filed suit against him in 2023 for allegedly sexually assaulting her several times back in 2001, when Reid was her boss at Arista Records. Reporters and members of the public showed up to a Manhattan federal courtroom on Monday (Jan. 12) for what was supposed to be the trial's opening day (following a several month delay after Reid changed lawyers), only to find the courtroom locked. After several hours, Dixon appeared outside the courthouse with her attorney Kenya Davis and her mother Sharon Pratt to announce the settlement. The moment was caught by Inner City Press. "We are happy to report that a settlement has been reached, the terms of which are confidential," Davis said in a statement "Drew Dixon is an extraordinarily talented music executive, and this resolution will empower her to move forward with her creative pursuits — on her own terms — with her reputation, her voice, and her career reaffirmed. I, for one, cannot wait to see what she does next. "Drew has been one of the most courageous and outspoken supporters of survivors of sexual abuse. Her advocacy, including her instrumental role in advancing the Adult Survivors Act, has helped shift the balance of power in the music industry, creating a path to justice for survivors. We would like to thank the many individuals who generously spent their time and energy getting prepared for the trial that would have begun today, including Roy Lott, John Legend, and Aku Orraca-Tetteh." Dixon added: "I am deeply grateful to my mother and children for their enduring love and support. I would also like to thank my incredible attorneys, Kenya Davis, Sigrid McCawley, Jacqueline Kelly, Daniel Crispino, Amber Stewart, and the entire Boies, Schiller, Flexner team for shepherding me through this arduous process. I hope my work as an advocate for the Adult Survivors Act helps to bring us closer to a safer music business for everyone. In a world where good news is often hard to find, I hope for survivors that today is a ray of light peeking through the clouds. "Music has always been my greatest source of comfort and joy. Even as a kid, I had an uncanny knack for predicting the next cool artist or album, the more eclectic the better. While I have focused on sexual assault advocacy in recent years, I have never stopped fighting for my place in this industry. I have big ideas for future projects that will be guided by creativity and integrity." Reid's attorney Imran H. Ansari issued a statement as well. “Mr. Reid has amicably resolved this matter with Ms. Dixon without any admission of liability," he said. Among the people scheduled to testify at the trial was John Legend. The singer was reportedly set to testiy
