Kodak Black is out. The rapper took to Instagram stories on Monday morning (June 5) to announce that he is out of the Broward County Jail after serving almost a month of his 364 day sentence for a parole violation from a 2016 conviction; a spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff's Office confirmed the release. The news was first reported by Sun-Sentinel reporter Brett Clarkson, who said he received a text with the news about the 19-year-old MC born Dieuson Octave.
While free, he is still facing a felony charge in South Carolina over an alleged sexual assault.
Last September, Kodak was sentenced to 120 days in St. Lucie (Florida) County Jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on Nov. 28, 2016, only to be extradited to Florence, S.C., where he had been charged with sexual battery following an incident that allegedly occurred in a hotel room last February. On Dec. 1, he posted $100,000 bond and was officially out of jail in South Carolina.
Prior to serving three months in St. Lucie County, Kodak had been locked up in Broward County, Florida, on charges that had included robbery, false imprisonment and possession of a firearm; after accepting a plea deal and pleading no contest to the charges last August, the young MC had been sentenced to one year of house arrest and five years probation. Once the court uncovered the warrants for his arrest in St. Lucie County and South Carolina, he was denied bond and transferred to St. Lucie County.
UPDATE: Atlantic Records has released a statement following Kodak Black's release. "We are very happy to have Kodak Black home. He is so thankful for all of the support he has received and is looking forward to recording new music for his fans and complying with the terms of his probation."
