Kevin Hart has played a businessman, a security guard and even a boxing promoter, but one role you might never see him take on is a gay character.
In a recent interview with "The Breakfast Club" on Power 105.1, Hart said he just wasn't comfortable portraying a homosexual character on screen.
"No — not because I have any ill will or disrespect," the 35-year old comedian explained. "It's because ... I don't think I'm really going to dive into that role 100% because of insecurities about myself trying to play that part. Does that make sense? Like, what I think people are going to think while I'm trying to do this is going to stop me from playing that part the way that I'm supposed to."
The actor also told the New York hip hop radio station that he had turned down a gig as a gay character in 2008 comedy "Tropic Thunder."
Hart said he declined the role of Alpa Chino, which was later given to Brandon T. Jackson, because the character was too "flagrant," although in the final script of the movie, the character's sexuality was much less obvious — with him only admitting he was gay at the end of the film.
"In my defense — first of all, before I say this, I'm politically correct. To the gay community, I respect and appreciate you for everything y'all do, and as people, I love you — the part was way more ... in the beginning, the dude was doing a lot of stuff in the draft that I read. I'm not saying it. It was real flagrant," the standup comedian said.
"It was a lot of stuff, and I was like, 'I can't do this,'" he added.
Hart hasn't completely ruled at the possibility taking on such a role in the future, but said, "Right now, it's just not on the drawing board.
